How do other working mums cope with school holidays?

I am sooooo lucky, when I went back to work after having DS2, my employers (the NHS) agreed to me having a 'school hours, term time only' contract.
I work 24 hours a week during term time (which easily accommodates 9am till 3pm) and the get all the school hols and inset days etc off :j :j :j .
It's a god-send, but does have the downside that I get no free time without my 3 darlings......0 -
I use babysitters and friends. Two of my friends take two weeks worth of half days during the summer, one stays with the kids in morning and the other in the afternoon. It works for them but it means that they have less time off together as a family.0

Like most of the other posters I:
take two weeks annual leave
Use my in laws for a week
Use Leisure Centre activies combined with my Mum for a week
Use fantastic childminder for a week
take a couple of days off as well
It sort of works out although I'm going from this year having two kids at school and working 3 days a week to having three at school and working 4 days next summer !! It will be sorted.....Working Hard to be Debt Free - one day :A soonDFW Long Hauler 74; Mortgage overpayments MFiT-2 challenger 100Total Nov07 £36000, Sep10 £1623:o:)0 -
I'm a minister, and so my work is quite flexible. They come with me if I am leading any services - a lot of my work is done at home (prep and admin, cashbooks etc), and any visits to my flock are done in the evening when my husband is home. After years in Nursing and Midwifery, its the most family-friendly role I have had.0 -
My DD is being looked after by my mother-in-law the first week, going away to Turkey with my mum and dad the next week, the following two weeks she goes to the holiday club at our local leisure centre and the last two weeks she'll be in Turkey for a fortnight with us. She loves going to the leisure centre as she gets to go swimming and ice skating and gets to play with lots of other kids. She's always knackered when she comes home. :T:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

Not an issue for me cos I'm only now pregnant with my first, but our "working from home" policy at work has just been rewritten to state that you are not allowed to work from home to cover for gaps in childcare and you must not have your dependents or visiting family members around as a distraction. It is there so that you can finish a project in peace (obviously can't if you have kiddies around) or you can wait in for a delivery or a plumber etc.
I was just thinking how lucky the ones of you who can work from home with kids around are0 -
I'm lucky in that I work in the evenings so school holidays are not an issue for me, but so far this week all I have done is look after the children and go to work!
And the direct answer to the OP's question is, badly and with large amounts of anti-depressants!0
