Can Someone Explain The % On Feedback

How do ebay work out the % feedback after negative feedback.

I just a negative for someone and their feedback went down to 95.7% they have since had 10 postive and feedback risen to 97%.
How do ebay work it out. Do you have to sell so much to get a % back

Well, it a percentage (!) so the number of negatives are taken against the number of postives. If you've sold loads, one neg won't count as highly as if you've only sold two items.

ie one neg on two items = 50% feedback rating
one neg on 100 items = 99% feedback rating

  • When you get to 2000+ a single negative doesn't count and you go back to 100%

I know this from bitter experience - I have had 2 negs both from people from the land of the stupid, neither of them were deserved, they don't or can't read and are arrogant beyond belief.

I need to get 457 more+ to go to 4000+ - then I can go back to 100%

If someone has one positive and one negative they have 2 feedbacks, and 50% (half) of them are positive, so they have a positive feedback of 50%. If someone then leaves them another positive, they have two positives and one negative, 3 feedbacks. 66.6% (two thirds) of them are positive, so they have a positive feedback of 66%. Each time another feedback is left, the percentage of the new amount that is positive is worked out.

There is a formula on the feedback page (on eBay) that explains the calculation they do to get your % if you want to work it out yourself...

I'm not sure the system is accurate tho...my feedback is 3 behind, and my percentage hasn't changed for ages, even tho I have many more +'s added.

I noticed I needed to get about 70 positives to make up for 1 negative on my ebay

Even if you go back to 100% positive, isn't the negative still noticeable in your feedback as a red 1?

I believe it is still visible.

yes, I still have the negative mark but after 2000+ I went from 99.9% to 100%. Then I met another nutcase and went back to 99.9% again

You obviously never get back to 100%. You need all positives to do that. It just takes ages to make up for any negatives you get.
