Thankyou very much but I'm unable to perform anything completely I get switched off - anyway I ran this on what is called safe mode and it picked up nothing. My AVG doesn't pick up unless it runs a long time and it keeps getting switched off. On safe mode my internet connection doesn't work by the looks of it so I had to return to the normal mode to ask what my next step would be - so sorry for asking of your time
on AVG I get shell32.dll and ntskrnl.exe change results - am unsure what I'm supposed to do with those
As has been mentioned your best bet is to try booting into safe mode (hopefully the worm/trojan that's causing your laptop to switch off won't be loaded under safe mode). Keep pressing F8 as you're booting up to get into the safe mode menu."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

But I cannot work under safe mode - my internet connection doesn't work and also the appearance of my settings are so strange.
I don't seem to have to press F8 - it asks me which mode I'd like to log into and gives me options - I simply click on safe mode0 -
In internet will not work under normal safe mode.
The appearance is strange because not all drivers are loaded, this is a good thing as hopefully we can work before the trojan is loaded.
ALSO consider this;
Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.0 -
My AVG has just completed the scanning and there's no sign of the Trojan - got no clue where it's disappeared but I'm not sure if I'll be allowed to stay online for long - there seems to be some other problem with my laptop perhaps?
your responses very much appreciated - I'll post here if there has been a difference after all this running booting and scanning0
