EasyJet: cancelled flight 5496, Prague to London Gatwick

Hello,
Was anyone else booked on the cancelled easyJet flight 5496 from Prague to London Gatwick, June 29 2008?
We were all assured by easyJet's Prague agents (Menzies) in consultation with easyJet operations that we would be reimbursed for travel costs in getting to London, if we accepted alternative flights to other UK destinations.
We anticipate problems, however, in getting easyJet to deliver on these assurances (and indeed, on EU regulatory requirements).
My wife and I were forced to reroute to Newcastle, and incurred about £300 in rail fares and hostel accommodation to get back to London today. Others, I know, were anticipating hefty second and third night tariffs at the Crowne Plaza in Prague.
We are likely to be in a stronger position if we present a united voice. Please email me with your contact details, and I will try to keep everyone in the loop re attempts to obtain the promised reimbursements.
My email address (replace the brackets with the '@' sign), is: jonathan.milne(AT)tes.co.uk
Cheers, Jonathan.

Surely you are covered by travel insurance for your extra costs? All you need is a confirmation letter of cancellation/delay from Easyjet - they should have given you one at the airport.
For the travellers who stayed behind, easyjet would have put them up in a hotel.
A far better place to post this is on the holiday truths website, there is a travel lawyer on there who will give good advice."There is a light that never goes out"0 -
Hiya
I wasn´t on your flight, however my flight on Saturday 28th June Manchester to Tenerife was cancelled on Thursday afternoon.
I had the choice of going Friday or Monday from Manchester or Sunday from Gatwick.
We chose the Friday (extra days holiday snatched out of their hand!)
We have to write in to obtain the reimbursement of extra fees when we return with reciepts.
I´m only going to claim for the taxi to airport as we had a lift organised for the Saturday, however they were in work Friday so no lift and also the extra nights accommodation.
You can scan them and send them to them via their internet site also.
Just to let you know - you are also entitled to €400 compensation per person under EU regulations. (this is on a sliding scale of dates for cancellations - please check your date of cancellation against the scale on google somewhere)
This has to be done in written form to their address at Luton airport - so I´m sending all my paperwork to them via there when I return.(this is on a sliding scale of dates for cancellations -2 Tickets to Blackrock Masters Tennis:j0 -
Thanks. The notice of rights we were handed incdicated 250 euros compensation, plus reimbursements. However, when we and others from our flight approached easyJet the next day, they were quite adamant that no reimbursement or compensation would be given.0

Why was the flight cancelled?0

Bit academic now but you'd have got a taxi straight back to London for less than that.
The following link may prove useful. In short you are entitled to compensation and they have to pay it (within certain limits)

jonathan - why was the flight cancelled? Easyjet are pretty tight when it comes to handing out money - It should tell you on the notice of rights that was handed out what you are entitled to and how to claim reimbursements. On a whole - if it was easyjets fault they tend to pay out (flight being under booked etc) but if it was something external - such as the weather conditions - then they generally only reimburse what you paid for the flight, providing they didnt offer you another flight and you turned it down.
I wouldnt take it on the word of menzies staff though - Menzies is a handling agent and will not know the ins and outs of EJ0 -
My flight was cancelled coming back to UK from Krakow last December. Easyjet have agreed to payout for the hotel and taxi but I still haven't had any money off them, just excuse after excuse as to why it hasn't been paid yet.
I couldn't claim off the insurance either, because they needed a letter off Easyjet confirming the flight was cancelled, and despite repeated assurances that the letter was 'in the post' it never arrived, and we went over the time limit for claiming.
I'm currently waiting for this round of 28 days (till payment is made) to be up, and then I will start a small claims against them. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
launch a small claims action against them..that normally gets their attention quickly.Timmay!0

Our Easyjet flights to Athens were severly delayed and then cancelled on sunday 29th june 2008. We were just given our rights and left to sort out everything ourselves. we were told that there was no crew. Is this a regular thing? I cannot believe that a scheduled flight that we booked in 6 months ahead had no crew!? We apparently should get a refund and compensation within 2 weeks.0
