most drives I've looked up have some negative feedback.. guess you will always get some that wont work - also I've noticed people say how it fell off the table and then moaned it didn't function anymore.. not really a surprise!
I really can't decide which one to buy now!
It's driving me up the wall.
can't decide between:

or

might get this as well...

Yeah, the best use for an external HDD is as a backup, as the chances of it AND your main hard drive failing simultaneously are pretty slim.
I've bought a few things from ebuyer and have never had a problem with them or their delivery people. They do seem to attract more than their share of complaints, though.0 -

Well, I would agree, and avoid them, and several other firms if I could come up with a REAL alternative, that seems to have little to do with price - I have even had delivery problems with John Lewis, who I suspect has the best (undeserved) reputation of any company around! [Delays, waiting for ever for confirmation, silent phone calls so they can claim to have rang me back; then followed by a "Song and dance" by the two delivery men who wanted to avoid work getting a Fridge Freezer to my ground floor, no steps up ground floor kitchen! I actually had to trolley it the last 10 yards to my kitchen myself, funny, I managed no bother, and I am significantly disabled!]
Short of travelling and picking up all items, and as a result defeating the whole concept of paying the least practical price, I find I get held to ransom fairly often by couldn't-care-less delivery companies whoever I buy from. The selling company always seem very relaxed about what happens when the item has left their premises, despite their livelihood depending on goods getting there :-(
What DO people do when they have to go out to work, especially iof they have no local relatives to help out? I find it enough of a nightmare, and I can usually arrange to be at home with a little notice, although I find companies expect you to wait for days on end with no solid delivery day, (I do have to go out to buy food etc. even if I don't work!) then it means 30 miles round trip to the depot, and a lot more hassle if you can't!

Being a pessimist, I back up to a USB drive, AND to another PC in the house (and in reverse from that to my machine), although of course that does no good if the house was burned down or burgled, and the PCs nicked! Offline backup is the obvious answer, and can even be free, but UPLOADS are pretty slow on even the fastest Broadband connections, and mine isn't one of those (1Mb down/512Kb up!) :-(

I've always had great bargains from Ebuyer. Once I had a duff product and I did get it sorted.
I've ordered this hard drive and you won't find a better deal for a 500GB USB drive on the net (I tried!) Amazon dropped their price to match Ebuyer's a day later.0 -

I'll be doing digital media so large files for Digital Photography, illo's and animation!
I also have a slightly dodgy telephone line so my broadband can cut out for a bit... just feels safer to have my stuff in my hand so to speak!
(i do have a some free online storage too (can't remember how much) which I need to have another look at... not had to use it at the moment so will have to refresh my memory)Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later date
