Nationwide Existing Customers Balance Transfer 5.95% Offer

This is VERY interesting. I just called Nationwide to try and get put on a lower (ideally 0% for maybe a year) rate to aid in clearing a problem debt where the debt is so high that it would take 2 years of all the cardholders net income to pay it off.

I was told in no uncertain terms that there were NO offers of any veriety we could have. The only thing would be to write to head office to maybe get a special payment plan, which would show on the cardholders credit file for 6 years. I re-iterated several times what I was after and why, and even suggested to the agent that maybe she was at the wrong department to be talking to, and maybe there would be other departments that could offer this kind of thing, but no.

We are not too bothered as I have offered to transfer the debt onto the 0% cards that I have just applied for (if I can get the limits raised) and the cardholder will pay me (I have absolutely no problems with doing this and understand all the possible consequences BTW), but I was most surprised to hear this attitude from nationwide CS. Not to mention the somewhat abrupt nature of the agent.

Maybe a bit away from the spirit of the thread but does anyone think that credit limit= 2 years net income is a case of irresponsible lending and could be grounds for complaint to the FSA (or similar)?
