Again the end of Quarter is the best time to try your haggling skills out with your bank as well.

Banks often have money available as incentive money for customers. If you ask for it, you can have it. Whether your switching bank accounts, taking home insurance or re-mortgaging your property.

Just ask what they can offer you for doing these things.

Most Banking Advisers will be very anxious to clinch those vital end of quarter sales for their own bonuses and targets that they will always try and offer you anything they can to seal the deal.

This works even better if you are taking more than one product at a time. If they say they can't do anything ask them if the wouldn't mind checking with their manager, they have more flexibility and often access or knowledge of secret incentive schemes which aren't advertised.

I work for a High Street Bank (:shhh: sorry cant say which one) but to switch your current account over to us from another provider, if you ask for it there are cash incentives there, average is £40 but can be more if you haggle well... Good Luck... :A
  • Hi

My fixed rate mortgage is up in January and wondered if you can haggle with banks over deals at the moment? Or could you play quotes off against each other? I can't think of any optional extras I could get ask to be thrown in either so any tips/suggestions to help me feel less like a doormat to these big corporations would be gratefully appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Brekky

I want a small patio laid down in my back garden - is there a best time of the year to get this done when it will be cheapest? Thanks in advance.

Obviously it depends whereabouts you live but the company that landscaped my garden had a winter discount which I think was about 30%

  • Any suggestions on new kitchens?

This relates to my local branch of Howdens but I imagine it would apply nationally.

Around October/November time Howdens do a 'TRADE' sale. With some fantastic deals on the prices of some units etc. As this is 'trade only' some kitchen fitters don't pass the discounts on to the customer ... however if you know about this and get a decent fitter they will pass on the savings. (Howdens bill the fitter direct and you might not see the detailed invoice)

I had already chosen to have a Howden kitchen based on their reputation and got quotes from two independent fitters (one didn't mention the discount and one did) and there was over 50% difference in the total price after fitting and the chosen fitter helped me to spot the real bargains (discounts can vary vastly between unit types and sizes). I ended up with a better kitchen than originally planned as I could afford a few extras like better trims etc.

Added bonus is that the kitchen is good quality and they have good after sales service should you need replacements or extras.

Happy 4 year anniversary! What an odd way to tag onto an existing thread! Im intrigued what the above rubbish is about? What is a better trim from Howdens? One thats actually long enough so you dont have joins? On that is not just a foil wrap on a real wood door so it matches? One that actually fits the unit properly so you dont have the light shining through? Please explain
