Lovely to see you Janey. How ridiculous about the car insurance and her response, I'm glad DS is dealing with it for you. I'm sure everything's like fighting through a thick blanket at the mo, my admiration for tackling even the smallest of jobs. I am so glad you're still posting xx

Janey, have a hug from me. Sympathies too about the insurance situation. It is all so hard for you. When I was talking to my friend (who lost her husband in Feb), she said - aside from the moments that you are monumentally overwhelmed with grief, it feels like you are killing time waiting for him to come back. That was one of the saddest things I have ever heard.

Yesterday I felt that I couldn't do anything because they was so much to do that I can't concentrate on anything. But I had a good day all-in-all. When we got back, MIL cut and dyed my hair. I nearly fell asleep while she was doing it. Would have had a small lie-in this morning but 20K leaflets for my business got delivered at 8.05am (something else t be dealt with before we go away!)

MIL has also said she will style my hair up for the wedding so that will save some money.

We had to send (a considerable amount of) money over for the funeral. I did ensure MIL paid our rent, and also put some money aside for her essentials for August (ie rent and her usual amount of money for nursing home fees for the other grandparent). We will do some kind of challenge to recoup the money H2B and I had to send over (MIL gave us everything she had apart from the stuff we put aside). The money has gone. No arguments, although I did say to H2B before it was sent that I wanted receipts for everything and if it didn't match there was going to be one almighty, extremely serious row. I feel bad about my lack of trust in some ways, but people's perceptions of other people's financial situations are often wrong. Our cost of living is relatively high over here and that is not always taken into account.

I have to go and do a huge task list to make sure I do everything that needs doing over the next 8 days. Luckily most stuff is not too unpleasant. And I have some lovely people helping me with the stuff that is unpleasant.

Nyk our house fire was due to an electrical fault in the roof. And the LL did not have an electrical safety certificate so don't know how he got the insurance to pay out.
But good news is that I have it in writing that I can stay here as long as I want. My LLs are lovely. Mrs LL travelled all the way from London to attend DH's funeral and came to see me that weekend.

I am OK visiting people I know but I get a bad case of the shakes if I am with other people. My lovely friends keep phoning to ask if I am OK but it gets exhausting after a while and I am having to let the ansaphone take some of the calls.

My DS and wife are taking me to NZ next year !!!:T
Its frugal for me as it will cost me nothing but spending money as we will stay with DIL's relatives who are wonderful.
So my holiday terramundi is now waiting for funds.
I keep finding small change all over the house. Maybe DH is trying to help :D

    Thanks whitewing.
I can empathise with what your friend says. I cannot bring myself to unpack the case I packed for DH when he went to hospital in case he needs it.
And I have left his shoes under the kitchen table so he will know where to find them as he always abandoned his shoes, I would put them away and then he never knew where they were.

My friend is the same. She is so torn about our wedding because of it, but she knows logically if she is with us in spirit that is more than enough for us.

I agree with everyone else, how ridiculous and callous. When my Dad died the insurance companies were very nice - one even sent me "a list of things to do" which included contacts for grieving relatives and practical helplines and agencies. I don't think I have it any more - but I'll check. An organisation which is very helpful and supportively understanding is Cruse. http://www.crusebereavementcare.org.uk/

Hope this ok to put up here, hope it helps

    A what??

And for my second  I have updated my signature and have broken through the £2,500 mark because of the Christmas shopping in the summer sales. The more I look at prices, the crazier our country seems to be. I can barely afford to feed the family 5-a-day and all the other nutritional requirements and RDAs and yet I can buy an iron, a toaster and a cordless kettle in a triple pack for £8.99, get it delivered free and receive 2 lots of cashback from it. Crazy or what!

Cashback also tracked and there's £1.68 showing from my £21 order to the Body Shop and the despatch notice arrived confirming free delivery, all the less than half price items are in stock and they've included the free gift (worth £6) because my order was more than £20. :j And no, I STILL haven't done a pressie inventory.

Just waiting for the postman so I can get some more work stuff packed up and sent off this afternoon; I've run out of post bags but found some cheap ones on eBid, so buy them by the 100 now. And I ALWAYS go through cashback when using eBay as I've had no problems with tracking. I don't know how I managed without cashback sites before coming here and finding out all about them. Thanks MSE! :T

PS: DOH! Just realised that I forgot about the free bingo yesterday again. I thought yesterday was Wednesday. :o :rotfl:

That is one of the saddest things I have ever heard too Whitewing, big hugs to your friend and Janey. What fantastic news about NZ Janey, how wonderful to have something to look forward to and that DH is helping you. Have you been before? What would you like to see/do?

Janey - I can only second what everybody have said. You just look after yourself and think of that lovely trip to NZ. How exciting!

Whitewing - you can do it, you can do it... go girl!!!

Nyk - you are doing so well by trying to feed you gang frugally and healthily.

Bails - hope you are feeling better today.

Sophiesmum - great news about the club. It seems like excellent value for money. Reminds me to take DD for swimming which I have been planning on doing for ages.

Yesterday I slipped from my diet and after having party food at the school party and even having a little nap before picking DD from nursery (instead of that walk) I was so tired that while DD was watching her DVD and having her snack I polished off fair amount of custard creams with tea. Just shows how easy it is to fall into eating when tired. Today I have eaten half inch time half inch square chocolate brownie - well it would have been rude to refuse. :D

This morning I went to pick up the unsold books I gave to DD's school Jumble sale. I don't know what the books have been up to but it looks to me that they have been breeding. I just managed to fit them all into my car. And after my recent exercise regime lifting those boxes was a task and a half. I need to go now and get them in from the car but there is no room here for them!!! I will be getting a book case from freecycle tomorrow so need to see how it fits in to my organising plan before going to buy some more.

I better go and finish all my personal paperwork or Bails will give me grief. I am sure she is at the moment thinking of appropriate punishment if I fail in my task ;).

    Have a great day everybody

    Marru
