Nyk Are we to gather that you are a trifle peeved, miffed and generally a little annoyed with things  :rotfl:

    Chill out......

In your house, that shouldn't be a problem :rotfl:
Being a rich person is obviously destabilising your personality

    Welcome back Mollymop5 :D

I anticipate a sore finger as well Jumblebee from peeling all these apples. I really don't know why I feel the need to pick and prepare them all as I can't possibly eat them and I think my visitors may start to dwindle if they get apples to eat for every meal :D
But they are FREE so I can't let them go to waste.
I hope you all understand my logic.
Last night I made 4 pear and 4 apple crumbles and I have a big pan of cooked apple puree. Next in line will be some pies as I have butter in the freezer and some lard for pastry.
DH had bought a 5kg bag of sugar for wine making which I can't eat (remember I said he never bought things in small quantities?). I will use it for the apples to feed my visitors.
I also have a humungous bag of unpeeled apples to deal with.

I could make some apple steamed sponges with my cheap eggs :j
Only another 3 trees to pick

Janey, I'm bad enough with one tree of apples to prepare but we are 3 here and we all eat stewed apples with anything that goes. Have you tried the 6 minute microwaved apple sponge? Basic sponge mix poured over the top of grated, diced, sliced or stewed apples in a microwaveable bowl, blast it for 6 minutes at full power and hey presto... can be done with fruit, syrup or jam and must be served hot but it's great for quick soup & pudding lunches or teas for unexpected guests.

Peeved? Moi? Noooooooooooooooooo......OK, yes! :rotfl: But I think I'm now almost calm enough to NOT throttle the bringer of such peevedness, thank you. I'll [strike]freeze to death[/strike] chill out this evening in the [strike]money pit[/strike] mansion and may even bathe in £20 notes whilst sipping [strike]store's own brand £1.76 Lambrusco[/strike] Bollinger and nibbling on [STRIKE]store's own brand 23p chocolate[/STRIKE] freshly made Swiss truffles, just to make myself feel better. :rotfl:

What with all the posts about mooncups, etc, I thought I'd ask this: I have a bag full of unused sanitary protection (found while sorting through a box of old medicines). What can I do with it? My friends are mostly like me - old enough to be past needing the stuff - but it seems so wasteful to just chuck it all away. Do charity shops take it?

Dreary here - more November than September.

I'd donate them to a womens' refuge, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to take them. I donated some toiletries which I'd got free from Tesco and they were delighted to take them.
Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.
  • Good luck with your college course mumzy! :D

Updated with some more spends today as I did our weekly shop. I spent a bit more than I would have otherwise as bf and I are both ill and I stocked up on medicine. It still ended up at just over £20 a week each. We were spending a multiple of this only a few weeks ago :oIn fact, we'd spend more than that on a takeaway  I've been watching a few different debt shows on TV tonight. Some of the figures involved are just scary. More motivation to stick to the budget!

I've been playing around with spreadsheets and worked out that sticking to this challenge for a few years would put me into the black and let me start saving. I love this :p

    Good evening all,

Did an emegency shop today to be able to feed us this evening and tomorrow morning. Idea is to do a big shop tomorrow but I am not really advancing with the shopping list. I will have another attempt in the morning. Also need to get some MB done tomorrow so might be a busy day. Then into birthday party of DD's best friend from nursery (3 years) on Sunday . I will find something for him from my book boxes just need to get a card.

Instead of doing my or my client's accounts this evening I have set up a spreadsheet for all our college units. It is getting more exciting by the day. Next week we are starting in real with lectures, duties and practical work with animals and work placement will start as well. I need to now find a work placement for next summer block placement and can't decide between wild life and domestic animals. I could do one as summer placement and other during second year weekly placements but can't decide which way around would be best for me to do it. Need to chat around a bit to find out more.

I am trying to have an early night so off I go now.

    Night night,

    Marru

Nyk thanks for that recipe. Another cunning way to serve apples :D
The last load of apples I cooked tastes divine as I added some cloves and cinnamon. Makes me feel quite Christmassy.
mumzy with all the rain, you could save £35 and teach your son to swim in the garden...if you have one.
bails I'm sure the plasterers would have been spurred to even greater efforts if Charlie Dimmock had sauntered past ;)
whitewing/MrsHayes when I worked as a midwife we used to say that your remaining brain cells were delivered with the placenta.
I was a terrible mother. As I was a student nurse when they were growing up, their staple diet was baked beans, mashed potatoes and cheese sandwiches. But they have grown in wonderful men and I am very proud of them.
wendywitch don't feel bad. It's a real learning curve on this challenge. I have fallen off the trolley a few times but keep hauling myself back on.
Bluefleur hope you and OH are feeling better. The debt shows are scary aren't they? But at least people who are on MSE are already facing up to potential problems so, hopefully, we will be better prepared if things get worse.

As you can see, fellow frunchkins, I am up at an unearthly hour again. Something woke me up at 4.30. I think...I hope...it was the wind and rain but I had to get up. It's a good thing MSE never goes to sleep as this site has helped me through some very dark and lonely days over the past couple of months.
Last night was difficult but I got through it and I'm still here.

Today is the local village show. I am going in wellies and raincoat. There will be duckboards in the tents and heaven help the poor dogs who run in the hound trails. I feel sorry for the organisers because it's a lot of work for them. Cars park on the field but I can see a few getting bogged down and needing rescued by tractors.
It's a proper local show where getting a red first prize card is more important than the prize...a stunning 50p :T
I have won a few prizes over the years but haven't entered anything this year. DH was a whizz and had a collection of red and blue cards.

I bought some wool yesterday and couldn't believe how expensive it is compared to the last lot I bought many years ago.
    But I did find a local market stall selling needles at a bargain .99p a pair..reduced from £2.49 :j
I had checked Ebay out first but the postage is always the killer on that sort of thing.
I did pick up a couple of loaves reduced from 95p to 44p each which I thought was a bargain and will last me for a couple of months as I only eat a slice a day usually.
I defrosted some milk and turned my back for a moment. When I turned round, bad cat had his nose buried in the jug so had to throw it away

Sorry for not stopping to chat much. My job has moved to a new location. As well as a longer (far too long !) commute, there has been lots of extra work getting set up. I still read the posts when I can and draw lots of inspiration from you - so thanks to everyone :)

I saw this article and though of you all:

    http://news.scotsman.com/latestnews/I-survived-on--a.4465258.jp

I am busy trying to sell my house. Just about start house work for a viewer later. The market around here is very stagnant though.

Following all the inpsiration on here I am looking for a house with a large garden and hopefully space for a greenhouse :D May be three years though ... :rotfl:

NYK - how is your house hunting going?
