  • What with all the posts about mooncups, etc, I thought I'd ask this: I have a bag full of unused sanitary protection (found while sorting through a box of old medicines). What can I do with it? My friends are mostly like me - old enough to be past needing the stuff - but it seems so wasteful to just chuck it all away. Do charity shops take it?

Dreary here - more November than September.

Post tripple checked for spelling/gramatical/typing errors!

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My typing skills were never any good and my spelling went completely to pot after doing admin in American spellings for USAF. My memory has never recovered and is, indeed, worsening as time progresses! I was worried about my sight but am now cured of that since Whitewing explained that it's only a side-effect of having had kids and not age-related. :j

And now on an even happier note - you know I won my £50 last night? Well, I checked back this morning to make sure it really was in the account and I HAD WON ANOTHER £20! Happy.gif I've left £10 to play through to show my appreciation and I've transferred £60 to my tax free Interest Beater Challenge account. I feel so lucky that I'm tempted to make this week a good week to start 'comping'. :D

Cold, blustery and miserable here today again, I'm glad I forgot to put the washing on last night. I have a feeling that I'll be obliged to switch on a heater soon as the windows and front door are getting condensation gathering (this is quite a damp house). I have advertised for a secondhand dehumidifier but no response so far.

On the 'kids and schools' saga, things haven't changed ar all since mine were at school (or even since I was at school). :o My kids were never happy that we couldn't stretch the budget to the top brand name items. DS, at 19, still won't wear a jacket to work even when it is lashing down and DD wouldn't dream of being seen out in public without a tan, makeup and her nails manicured. I, on the other hand, grew up on a farm and have never felt the need for the glam look - I guess it figures that DD is now a beauty therapist with 40+ handbags, matching shoes and a designer clad 'mini-me', and DS thinks nothing of paying £50 for a T Shirt!!

Before anyone that may know me points out the obvious, yes, I did go through a spate of spending on non-essentials (rather spectacularly) but I'd rather not go down that route at the moment :o :rotfl: :rotfl:

    FREECYCLE it?
Or are there any homeless shelter type associations near you?

what about a local school - i would have thought that they could come in handy for spares. Or offer them on freecycle.

Talking of charity shops...we had a clear out of DS' clothes, as we do every year. We took them to our local charity shop, and they were thrilled. For the first time, they asked if I was a taxpayer. When I said 'yes', they got me to fill in a form so they can claim 'giftaid' on my donation. (They give each donation a reference number so they can match it back to you to claim back the tax, but it's all confidential). Anyway, I thought that was a great idea.

    hello frunckins

i have a great frugal tip,

make your house really messy in the run up to having an operation, so that you have to spend the run up to it cleaning and run out of time to batch cook

then your mum or some other kind soul will be forced to bring you meals on wheels :rotfl:

then borrow your mums pride and prejudice dvds and curl up under your new frugal duvet that you got for £1 at a village fete :T

i would be having a great time if my finger wasn't so flipping sore!

:naughty: (this is me waving my big finger about)

Yey Nyk :j Bet that win has made your week. I won £50 on the premium bonds once and I was very chuffed.

Thanks Bails although I can't take the credit for being organised its Dh and his diy obsession!

Its throwing it down here again. I hope my poor boys are snuggled up in their kennel. I think I will have a nice cup of tea and I supose I'd better get on with some work  xx

Jumble-Bee I really do hope that finger gets better soon - ouch! Hope you have some painkillers on standby.

Rant alert... just scroll past this part as it's for personal therapeutic purposes only.
    Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeam............
I am constantly flabbergasted by the lack of organisation and communication within some companies! Certain elements of my work are driving me INSANE with some ridiculous 'methods' and I'm HAVING to take a break for fear I tell them exactly what I think of their ridiculous so-called 'business skills'!!!!! Two of my current 'contracts' are giving me grief. I thought it was bad enough that one disappeared without trace only to turn up in the newspapers detained elsewhere for '6 to 10' at her majesty's pleasure, but this other one really takes the biscuit! At least with the first one I can simply forward everything to lawyers and walk away, but the second really is driving me crazy today. Aaaaaaaaaaaaarg.... if any of you concerned are reading this then GET YOUR ACTS TOGETHER AND BE ASSURED THAT A SIMPLE YES OR NO ANSWER WOULD HAVE SUFFICED! When I asked, did you send out ***whatever*** document', then your short answer should have been a simple, "NO"!

    RANT OVER, SORRY :D

  • Thanks for suggestions re Freecycling. I'm not so sure about it though, I think some people might not like to go hunting up tampons at a stranger's house. Perhaps a school or shelter or something where they keep 'emergency supplies' would work better. I think I know the place....
