Not sure if it's the same thing, but type 'easycap vhs' into eBay.

Sounds as if you are better off just buying a DVD recorder.

I'd agree with Donnie - using a standalone DVD recorder is dead easy - it's the method I've used to convert VHS to DVD. You can then rip the DVD to your computer if you want to do any editing.

Argos has a DVD recorder on offer for £35 (cat no 533/6779); Ebuyer has one for £50 (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131895).
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
  • It' all very confusing though becuase there are so many products which can convert vhs to digital.

For example if you don't have a vhs player you can buy this. Or if you do have a vhs player you can buy the easycap. Or you might want to buy a dvd vhs recorder which is great to record to DVD but not to digital.

To be frank, I've put off converting my VHS because there is too much choice and I can't make my mind up!

I've spent a while looking a various options, hope someone can help.
I don't have VHS player or DVD player/recorder and don't wish to purchase one.
My mother has VHS player, would "easycap" work if I connected to my laptop?
It seems best option but .........

    Thanks

I use one of these too, with a variety of machines & for setting-up live cameras. Excellent device!

Only minor niggle is that the capture software sometimes forgets its codecs & you have to reinstall it.

Yes, if you have a laptop, it will connect to any VCR with the appropriate outputs. You will probably have to get a couple of extra cables & maybe an output SCART adaptor depending. Which should not cost much. :)
