Moscow to Beijing - Anyone been ?

Thinking of doing the Trans Siberian Railway journey from Moscow to Beijing. Doing it with a tour company and they break up the long journey by stopping off for days here and there, so will not be on the train for the solid journey.

Have been to Moscow many years ago, but would welcome all thoughts (good and bad) on anyone who has done this trip and anyone who has been to Beijing, what it is like etc ?

Thanks in advance

It depends on how you want to do it. The one I am planning to do is with Explore Worldwide and is coming in at £1700 inc flights for 23 days

You can do it much cheaper with companies like Imaginative traveller, perhaps £800ish plus flights.

Or you could do it completely on your own, and I am sure it would be cheap as chips, but I don't speak much Russian, Mongolian or Chinese so am going for the safe option !

List price for a 21-day "Silk Road" Tour starts from around £5999 - I'm sure it's possible to find cheaper options.

The tour is best for those who enjoy history and have an appreciation of different cultures (naturally!). Travelling with good companions also helps otherwise it runs the risk of turning into just a very long train journey! It's a good introduction to Russia and China for newcomers, but I wish I had had more time to explore!

I did Moscow to Lake Baikal (Eastern Siberia) in the winter of 1987.........yes very cold but also unforgettable, being delayed by a total of 12 hours hardly helped either!
I'm sure that someone here will have been more recently!

:o Sorry, it is a bit steep isn't it?
This is for the classic train journey aboard a private Trans-Siberian Express and China Orient Express train in 1st/deluxe accommodation.

Just got a brouchure from 'ON THE GO', 19 days from between £1149 and £1499, it is a basic/backpackers type tour though.

    Website is https://www.onthegotours.com

    Prices don't include flights.
