Faulty Electric meter??

I am quite sure that I am being over charged fory electricity this has bee goingo n for more than a year -my meter readings are correct but my bill is more than double that of my neighbours who have the same size house and same size family and roughly use the same appliances as me. Is it possiblemy meter is faulty and whsat can I do about it. My supplier is adamant there isnt a problem.

Before getting your meter tested take reads for 7 days at the same time. This will show your daily consumption. I would also advise getting an energy monitor so that you can go around switching things off individually to work out what is using all the electricity.

read the meter, boil the kettle for 10 minutes (probably take 3 fills), read the meter. if it has gone up by about half a unit, it is probably correct.

    is your immersion on?
When you do that, make sure that everything else is off first and that the dial is not spinning

is your immersion on? maybe you shower/use the oven more frequently.

Whilst the principle is sound I would add one proviso!

Make sure the kettle is rated at 3kW.

There are a lot of 2kW kettles being produced today. Google 2kW kettles to see just how many.
At Russell Hobbs we offer a range of kettles from 2Kw to 3Kw meeting all of our customers’ needs. The higher the wattage the quicker the kettle will boil.

You are entitled to have your supplier come and check the meter for correct calibration, but if they find no fault, they will almost certainly charge you for coming! So your best option, as has already been mentioned, is to use an energy monitor to try and pinpoint what is using all the electric. On the downside, these are £50 plus :- (.
