Is anyone ever "happy" they got into debt?

I spent my twenties getting into debt, consolidating it and getting into debt. I travelled to over 27 countries, lived in canada and America, drove a sports car, saw every live band I liked, stayed in some great hotels, had some expensive hobbies. I have a room full of photographs, memory boxes and souvenirs.
I dont regret a thing.
I was born with a medical problem that I am now registered disabled with, my condition requires surgery twice a year and leaves me in a lot of pain.I then developed another medical condition that also required 2 lots of surgery. My life has become a series of hospital appointments, tests, surgeries, painkillers etc.
I also have a baby now, much as I love him to bits, life is very different now. I am so glad I lived a rock stars lifestyle while I had chance. I have also seen how the power of compund interest worked against me, I cant wait to pay off debt and make it work for me.
I no longer drive a sports car, sold it on ebay and replaced it with a £700 golf I also bought on ebay. I have sold anything that I dont actually need, also on ebay. I tend not to fritter money away on things I dont need, such as books, I have discovered a place called the library instead.
I do still travel a lot when I am able to, but I enjoy saving up for it now.
Oh yes, I also have several christmas presents in the loft, they have been there since the January sales. There was no way I would think about christmas till dec 23rd in the past.
I wouldnt change a thing. One of lifes lessons.0 -
Yes and no!
Yes in that I used the money to leave a relationship that wasn't working and was able to move flats. Like painted lady i also spent most of the rest on travelling and seeing places, meeting people, spending times with friends and doing things that will always stay with me. My OH is in the forces and so some of the money went on trips to go and see him when he was away, and again we are left with very special memories of those times.
No, in that if I had been more switched on and much less naive, I could have done those things by saving up, and wouldn't still be paying the money back well over 5 years later, and having to limit my activities and choices now as a result. However, the whole experiece has left me with a much greater sense of responsibility and sense that i can look after myself, and put things right, which I guess is a good thing.
