Are you ashamed of having a 2nd job?

Options
Well had my 2nd night at the bingo hall tonight and I have to say its alot easier than the working in the pub!

But what has made it easier is that I know that there its hardly likely that someone I know will walk in and ask why I'm doing what I'm doing....perhaps this is why OH didn't want me to take the job in the pub, lol!

DO any other DFWers who have a 2nd job feel like this or is it just me?

I don't have a 2nd job but don't see why you should be ashamed, you are solving your debt issues whilst some people don't even want to get one job!

Don't be ashamed about it - at least you're sorting things out and that should be celebrated! If you are too embarrassed to admit to the debt just say you are saving for a holiday, baby, new car.... the list is endless. I had one in the past but had to pay a mortgage plus rent due to a breakup which I admitted when asked and noone ever gave me a hard time.

but well done on the 2nd job.

I know exactly what you mean... Its just sinking in that I'm going to need a second job if I ever want to speed up this getting out of debt, but there is still that part of me that feels like I'm doing something almost wrong. Or maybe not normal, to put it a better way. I don't know, its a hard one to describe isn't it! :rotfl:

I know that there isn't actually any shame in it, but it doesn't stop me thinking it...

I have had a second job working in local pubs for years and I am in no way ashamed of it. People did ask in the beginning why I did it when I didn't have to but for me it is very simple. I don't drink much (it doesn't agree with me, even small amounts) and I get to work earning money and socialise with friends at the same time. Any money I do earn I save up towards holidays etc. Working hard is never anything to be ashamed about, and I don't know about anyone else but I don't have plans for things to do every weekend so it suits me fine.

I have two 'second' jobs, one is bar work which I do because I enjoy it, as pointed out to several of my mates means I get a night 'out' too see them and save not only the amount of cash I would normally have spent on food/drink but earn at the same time.

Of course there are times when I would love to go out with my friends but Ive agreed to do a shft when I wish I didnt 'have' to work but so far the bar work has covered the cost of running my car for the last 12 months. And the other job is dribbling money in to my 'get own place'/'back to uni' fund. But Ive never felt ashamed of choosing to do the extra hours. Although the none bar work job Ive had people making some pretty nasty remarks about.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I work full time, currently 72 hours a week.
My friends cant understand why I work so hard, but without doing that I would not have all the nice things i have got.
You should never be ashamed of hard work, its the people that cant be bothered to work that should be ashamed.
