Advice please. DS has broken a shop window!!

The shop keeper seems to be acting decently in merely asking for the excess of £250 rather than the cira £1000 a replacement will cost.
Telling someone they need to wait until the police arrive is not "detaining" them. I doubt if the lad had left there would have been anything the shop keeper could have done.
Is there any reason why your son didn't call you when it was all happening? It's a rare 15 year old who doesn't have a mobile phone and no doubt the shop also had a phone. Why didn't he ring you in that 2.5 hours ?
I do think your son's friend should be contributing too-good luck with that !
An expensive lesson learned I guess-Hope he finds a job soon and the shop keeper is reasonable (sounds like he has been so far but I'd be wary of antagonizing him about "detaining" your son before an agreement has been reached).I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
