CC for a friend

in Credit cards
A friend of mine who does not believe in CC's needs one as he is going on holiday and needs to hire a car and needs a CC.
They have good jobs and no debts so any card application should be fine.
They are looking for a good deal, so I have been looking at Quidco.
They will be using the card on holiday, and paying it off in full and probably canceling after they get back.
Quidco deals are fine, I see amex are the best? Or any other non quidco with free wine or anything (see the first direct one has finished).
Any help appreciated.

if they are using abroad then Post office/Abbey/Nationwide might be useful as they don't impose any fees for foreign currency transactions?Kavanne

if your friend does not have a CC nor any loans then his credit file may be a bit thin... i.e. no history of paying off CC properly... in this case he may have difficulty in getting a good card..0

It doesn't quite work like that, in fact not having credit previously will count against the applicant as the associated risk will be higher than someone who has a proven history of repayments.
Your friend should approach his own bank as they will already have a financial relationship and forget ideas of getting the best possbile card on the market.0 -
Absolutely agreed. If your friend applies to a bank they have no history with, and there's nothing on their credit file, then the bank has no idea what risk they're dealing with so will often decline the application outright or offer a tiny credit limit. You need to educate your friend on how useful a credit card can be for saving money, in terms of cashback or interest free periods. It doesn't quite work like that, in fact not having credit previously will count against the applicant as the associated risk will be higher than someone who has a proven history of repayments.0 -
