Why wont my pc system restore work

I am using XP and have had a couple of probs lately. Only minor ones but thought i would use the restore to solve them....... but it will not work???
It goes through the whole process but on restart gives me an error message saying unable to carry out system restore??
Any help most welcome.

I'm no expert in this area, but as nobody else has answered, I assume your System Restore isn't switched off? Mind you, I don't know how far you would have got in the process if it was.

You can check at 'Start All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore/System Restore Settings'.

This may be no help but may prompt further comment.

try reinstalling old version, system restore is probably a side effect but will probably be no use in this instance as most "program files" are not system files.
also check for spyware etc as per sticky thread

I have sorted the messenger problem but the restore will not work... i have waded through various internet pages like the one above and getting nowhere.... slowly!
