Alliance & Leicester Free W/D in July

Just a reminder that there are no interest penalties on withdrawals during all of July.
I shall be emptying my Direct Saver that now pays a miserly 5.5%.
I have had an abysmal experience with A & L who have lied to the extent I took them to the FSA. I will never use A & L again - their Customer Service is atrocious.

How about switching it to the esaver tomorrow? It's currently paying 6.5% interest. Unless you want to leave A&L completely - I agree their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Doesn't this account have penalty free withdrawals on the 1st of every month?

It's been paying a "miserly 5.5%" since 2/5/08. Why didn't you empty it on 1/6/08?...or even 2/5/08 if your experience was so "abysmal"?
  • You should have switched it on the first of the month, months ago, to the e-saver which has been running for donkeys and continues to run at 6.5% :T
Noobie (not so :D) trying to make loads a dosh - please bear with all my questions  Thanks :D

I've opened an eSaver (sic) account and I can now see both of my accounts (the other one is the old 5.5% one) on my summary page. It won't let me transfer the money into the new account directly , the only available option is to move the money out to my linked current a/c.
Fed up with all this nonsense i.e. new accounts every few months and new issues of new accounts every few days - will be closing completely and moving to Kaupthing or similar.

It's been posted before that if you ring and threaten to close the Direct Saver account they can miraculously transfer it across manually for you.

That said, why jump through hoops with A&L when the same 6.5% rate is available in 'clean' accounts elsewhere?

I received a letter from A&L telling me that as a premier reward I would receive 6.55% interest for 12 months in their plus saver a/c and its a clean a/c too. So I moved the lot from my esaver into it. Whats more they offered a £100 challenge if I could get a better rate elsewhere on an Instant access a/c. I have not been able to find a better rate but hope that something comes along so I can get the £100 too. This £100 challenge ends in August.

I don't know about changing rates - the e-saver has been running at 6.5% for a number of months now.
