There's another site similar to Ciao called dooyoo.co.uk

The problem with that is that instead of cashing out at a tenner like you can on ciao, you have to wait till 22.50 worth of 'miles' to get a 20 pounds amazon voucher (they do other shops online as well but can't remember which, amazon is probably the best.) or 55 pounds of miles to get a 50 pounds cheque.

They do pay out in the end though - they pay slightly more per read than Ciao and pay in all categories rather than some, plus they have a system for rewarding good reviews called 'crowns' which is probably more fair than Ciaos 'premium fund'.

I do write on both sites, it's the only online stuff I do - takes me about 6 weeks to get a voucher from dooyoo, longer on ciao since I'm less active, but the effort is minimal and I can assure everyone here that neither of those sites are a scam

Paid surveys can be and easy job if you have the right information or it can be a dreadfull if you signed with too many survey comapanies that don't pay you enough. Many people I know are getting pay extra cash monthly but not enough to leave their jobs, so don't ever think of leaving your job, paid surveys is only for extra perks and fun.
