Regular "Dino" diesel is produced by a small number of known quality controlled refineries to a standard, EN590.BillScarab wrote: »Except that in my Octavia's manual it specifically states you shouldn't use Biodiesel. I'm not sure why that is though.
Any old jack the lad can churn out some "biodiesel" to who knows what standard, hence manufacturers unwilling to endorse it's use.
It has been said the VAG TDi engines (as opposed to common rail diesels) are better suited to biodiesel and alternative fuels by their nature, but I know of a number of well informed people who know who to judge a good biodiesel (it's easy) using it long term safely in their older out of warranty common rail diesel cars.0 -

All true but I believe there are standards for Biodeisel (i.e. EN 14214:2003) as well and I've read that Skoda's are are certified to use with Biodiesel in Europe. It's my problem, it's my problem

Biodiesel took off so well in Germany that the industry really took off until the government there started to notice the tax revenue losses, equalised the tax and promptly killed it off again
If Skoda's are certified for it, you would have to question why the rest of the VAG group (Audi, VW and Seat any more?) are not since they all use the same diesel engines.
Here we go, make your own biodiesel, not sure how we go about EN standards approval for it though:
