Garage Contents Insurance

Options
We are just about to sign an agreement for a rented garage, not attached to our home but not far away and I am after getting insurance for its contents.

Does anyone know a company that does this? I have tried calling our current home insurer and they transfered me to their car insurance team. I am more worried about the junk I want to store in there!
 I'll get you debts and your little dog too!!!
And best of luck to all the other debt busters out there!!

  • Hi there

    I can help!!!

I assume you have tried Google and put in "Garage Insurance" only to find that everything relates to the Motor Trade industry.

Your home insurers are unlikely to help. This is especially true if you have bought your insurance from a website, as they tend to employ people who will work for next to no money at all; the MD of HBOS was once quoted as saying "I could replace my entire callcentre staff with people who work at B&Q and no one would notice the difference". Nice bloke to work for!! I think he was trying to say that he didn't need to employ people who knew anything about insurance but if I worked for B&Q I'd be quite upset by this.

Give up on the home insurance and "garage" is the wrong word to search in Google.

Essentially, you are renting a storage room that has a very big door. I would suggest you try typing "storage site insurance" into Google and see what you get. I did and the first one on the list was:

    http://www.safestore.co.uk/insurance/default.aspx

I have no idea whether they are any good, but I hope this gives you a starting point to go from.

Have you got any evidence to back up what I suspect to be absolute rubbish? And which MD are you talking about- HBOS as a whole or HBOS GI? Knowing the MD of GI I highly doubt he would say that publically about staff within his own company, and certainly not the MD of the entire company.
  • Hi Flame

This information comes from an ex director of HBOS. Up to you whether you believe it or not.

I have been calling around for days and can't find anywhere that offers this kind of policy. Surely someone has had a similar problem that can shed some light??? I dont want to risk it.
