Question about Easyjet and Thomsonfly

Hi,
I hope someone will be able to help as I fly on thursday and am a bit worried. Basically I am going to Malaga this thursday flying with Thomsonfly and coming back next week flying with Easyjet. I opted to take hand luggage only for both flights rather than pay extra to check in luggage.
I know for Ryanair that to check in at the desk you have to pay just to check in if you dont use their online check in, but I've not had any email from either company yet to prompt me to do online check in and I can't find anywhere to do this on either site.
Does paying for check in, only apply to Ryanair? If I turn up with just hand luggage do I go to the desk and get issued with a ticket?
Sorry if this sounds a bit dim but I've never flown with either Easyjet or Thomsonfly before so would really appreciate any info on this.
Thanks!
