Google problem

Hi

I'm having a problem with Google which is set as my home page as I use it that often.

When I put something in search and then try to click on any of the given links, I get taken to some other advert or as was the other day x rated site. If I try to use the back button it wont let me either but stays on this hijacked page!

This is the second time this has happened to me on two pc's now but I didnt manage to sort the other one out before it crashed anyway.

Wondered if anyone knew why this is. I have Norton internet security which appears to be working fine.

Thanks

Do a virus scan or use Spybot like Ivan said. Looks like you got spyware IMO
  • Norton isnt a very good product to be honest.

Thanks for that, is Spybot a free one? And can you run it alongside Norton?
  • Yes, spybot is free and you can run it along side nortons.

I'd recommend both SpyBot and Ad-Aware.

Just make sure you update them before you run them each time.

    Thanks for the links.

I am going to try spybot I think, but when I go to the page its giving me three option sections of downloads.

    Main Mirrors
    Hosted by safer-networking
    Further Mirrors

    What difference are these categories?

Also if I have problems with spybot making my pc slower or something, can I easily uninstall it?

    Thanks

The options are just different places to download Spybot from - no difference in practice.
I'm pretty sure it's simple to remove - but as it's never played up I've never had to. Most PC users feel it's an essential tool to have.

Don't just use SpyBot, use both. One will pick up what the other misses.

And yes, both programs are easy to remove.

    Agree.
    Norton isn't that great.

Spybot is a very good tool for removing malicious spy/ad ware. and very easy to use.

You can uninstall spybot - but it only runs when you tell it too.
You can set it to run in the background, but if you read the tutorial it will all be clear.
It has it's own uninstall, and you could use windows uninstaller as well, but you won't have any problems with it slowing down your pc - it will have the opposite effect.
