Ok so this is a question about Mushrooms. I love mushrooms but my Fiance hates them. When I started doing the whole MS thing he agreed that he would try his hardest to eat them, and since then I put them in most of my meat dishes and last night I made a Vegetable Paella (is that spelt right?) from my veggie cook book, but he picked out every last mushroom and said, 'I don't eat them anymore' The thing is we have cut out most meat from our diet to try and save money that way, and most veggie dishes I have include mushrooms..
So I now have a freezer full of the shrooms as I bought a big bulk and chopped them and froze them, and my picky Fiance won't eat them, what can I do with them, or how can I sneak them into food? I think it is a case of the texture he doesn't like, you know when you cook them in saucey dishes they have a slight slimey texture? (or is that just my cooking? :rotfl: )
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

i've blitzed up frozen mushrooms before and added them to things and OH never noticed, like hm burgers, meatloaf, stew, soup
i also can just about get away with it if they are chopped up tiny and in mince dishes, he doesn't seem to notice.Nonny mouse and Proud!!

I hate mushrooms myself. I'll eat them when I've cooked them, but not otherwise - and that means EVER. Although I do like campbells mushroom soup - oddly enough.
Why don't you keep a small pan, and fry them up separately, serve his, pop the cooked devil's veg into your meal and serve yours? Then you both get what you want - and obviously he will do the washing up if you are cooking so bingo.
Also - frozen mushrooms - eugh.0 -
The don't notice as much in mince dishes like lasagna and shep pie, but when cooked with lots of rice, the rice just seems to taste really "mushroomy" and uck.
I don't like them either and used to pick them out but now I add them to lasagna and shep pie dishes but still can't stand them in rice dishes (I also find that breaking of the stalk helps as that is the bit with the worst texture and so only put mushroom heads in things - though not very helpful when you've chopped them all
) Newlywed at the point I joined the forum... now newly separated0 -
They have a weird texture as well as a weird smell! I've come round to the smell (i.e. the taste) and don't mind them minced into things, or even as stuffing (or duxelle, if you're feeling fancy!).
I DO NOT like them in ordinary slices cooked in risotto etc and the idea of eating them raw makes me throat close!0 -
And all this time, I thought it was just me!!!0

:rotfl: This made me laugh so much. I can take or leave mushrooms, but my son has a morbid dread of the things.... He's a big brave 20 now but when he was little he would actually weep real big tears if he found one in his food (when we weren't at home - I wouldn't be so cruel!) He would heartily agree with you that mushrooms come straight from the deepest pits of hell.0 -

I suggest that the problem was that the OP didn't chop the mushrooms up enough. That way, even if the DF noticed, he couldn't pick them all out. However, if he's "not eating them", then I see no reason why the OP should continue cooking them - or anything else for that matter. Either that or he gets a better paid job, so you can afford meat instead of mushrooms. If he's not careful, me & MrBE and some other of the OS "lads" will be paying him a visit and making him an offer he can't refuse!
