Ok we have narrowed it down to two choices!

Seiners in Perranporth or Old Mill House Inn in Polperro.

Has anyone visited either of these? Costs are similar but being so far away in Yorkshire we only have online reviews to go on!

    Thanks.

We are hoping to be really anti-social and escape to Cornwall for a quiet wedding (just the 2 of us) and have a big party when we get back.
We are down in Cornwall for 2 weeks this September and thought it would be perfect to get married whilst we're there. I particularly have lovely memories of holidays there as a child in Polperro and Mevagissey.

    Hi
We had a quite antisocial wedding in York a few years ago and I found the GRO site helpful with choosing a venue as it lists all of the approved sites - the one that made me chuckle was Asda:)

I haven't been to that hotel, but I absolutely love Perranporth. The beach is fantastic.
  • During the summer a lot of people who get married in or near Perranporth walk down to the seas edge in full wedding regalia to have photies taken. They must end up having superb photos, but it does look a little strange. There is a flying club in the hills over Perranporth and you can arrange to have them fly a banner across if the idea grabs you. No idea how much though.

I live just under 10 miles from Perranporth, so do feel free to PM me if you think local knowledge could be of any use or I can do any research or legwork for you.

Asda? Amazing - straight into the cafe for the reception then! Glad we are not the only people wanting to have a quiet do! Some friends were married 2 years ago - now divorced but still paying for the wedding! Madness.

I was a bit concerned about going down on the beach feeling somewhat overdressed - I'm not really an attention seeker so that might be weird!

All the info has been really helful though - and we have now decided on the Old Mill House in Polperro. The owner sounds really helpful and it sounds as if it will be all very personal so just checking the resistrar is free for our dates then we can get it all finalised. We'll let you know how it goes!

For those wanting to do something similar - costs are as follows:-

£55 per room (four poster) inc breakfast.
    £50 room hire charge
    £350 for registrar.

Just need to sort a small bunch of flowers and a photographer and hopefully we're done! (2k for an evening do when we get back - but at least we can really chill at that!)

    Thanks again!
  • Just to say a huge thank you to all who posted replies to this thread.

I have now been happily married for 2 months and the wedding was perfect and cheap. Very low key - and stress free - but it was all about 'us' and I still felt like a princess. :-)

We had the civil ceremony in September at the Old Mill House Inn in Polperro. Four poster room b&b for £50 per night (for 2). Absolutely beautiful. £331 for the ceremony charges. £60 for the room hire charge. £40 flowers from a local florist - and a local photographer took the pics for £200 and put them all on a CD for us to do with as we wished. Wouldn't have bothered with a photographer if we had any guests to take pics but it was just the 2 of us. Wedding dress was in the sale from Monsoon (£40) and grooms linen suit was £50 from M&S. Fantastic meal out at night (paid for as a surprise wedding present by family.) We had a big night do 3 weeks later back at home for £900 at a local hotel (disco and food included - and the bridal suite!) with the speeches (very impromptu) and cake from M&S which my daughter decorated with sweet pebbles and chocolate seashells to go with the seaside theme. All just so fantastic and so chilled and stress free.

It was just what we wanted - no stress, no seating plans - no tradition at all really. It was just about the two of us and everyone said the night do was one of the happiest occasions they had attended as all the 'official' stuff was all over with weeks before and we could just enjoy the night as much as the guests.

I'd post some pics here if I knew how to do it!

It just goes to show that it really isn't about all the expense and the fuss. We were sat having a cappucino in a local cafe an hour before the ceremony - and managed to transform ourselves from tourists to bride and groom in an hour! The hotel staff were amazing and sat drinking with us to celebrate all afternoon! We walked around the village having all our pictures taken in about 20 minutes with all the tourists snapping away and congratulating us. It was all so lovely.

So if anyone is thinking of getting married on the cheap- it really can be done :-)

How I wish I could get away with having an anti-social wedding like this - it would be just my cup of tea. But I would never be allowed it. :(

    Good luck to you both.
