VoIP Headset

I'm looking to buy a VoIP headset for my laptop - I've just ordered Plusnet unlimited 1Mbps Broadband on our line so will be able to use this for incoming calls with Sipgate (unless there are other better VoIP providers out there?).

However, I'm not too sure where to go for a decent (but cheap) headset. Obviously I want something that will last so will pay for quality.

Any ideas? :D

  • You could do far worse than looking at a plantronics headset...

There are some nice portable headsets starting to appear, but the corded ones are a lot cheaper.

    I use one of these:

I bought it off Ebay from a Japanese supplier (not this one), and it was £1.99 but the postage was a bit steep and brought the price up around £7. But I didn't have the time then to shop around.

It plugs into your soundcard and has a throughput plug for your speakers. A switch on the handset allows you to switch between speaker and handset sound output and I've found it very good for VOIP.

I expect you could find it cheaper elsewhere with a bit of searching. I didn't like the idea of wearing headphone type sets all the time, although I suppose the miniature one earpiece types aren't too bad.

    Worth a look.

I bought the same one from Maplins - £10 - So far it has been great. Just make sure you don't put your finger over the mouth piece otherwise you won't be able to be heard!

I use it on both Skype and Voipbuster.
  • Thanks for that - anything that I could get mail order?

I've seen the one on ebay but I'm looking for a headset not a phone handset as it will be for chatting for some time so holding a handset would get a little annoying.

I'm not able to get anywhere at the moment, due to a lack of car :o so I'm restricted to high streets and mail order :( so if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. :D
  • I have a set of Sennheiser PC150s and im really pleased with them.
They were a bit pricey though!
