I agree that's why they are convenience stores sometimes open longer than main stores particularly Sunday. I only used them the once and never again as I wasn't happen that the store has a policy of doing nothing about lazy gits who abuse the disabled parking when I had my disabled daughter with me. But I appreciate its a convenience for many, just not for me

What makes you think the prices in all their larger stores are the same? I remember a friend telling me that, despite living very near a large supermarket (in central London), it was cheaper for him to order online and pay the £5 delivery charge as his groceries were charged at outer London prices saving him well over £5 on his weekly shop. Can't remember if it was Tesco or Sainsburys though.
  • Our local tesco express has 75% off reductions on short dated goods, great if you are going to use them quickly anyway. Got two bag fulls for 4.50 last night including the bread i went for and a 1litre copella apple juice for 37p!

Am I missing something or should the prices in Tesco Express stores be price checked to those of their larger grocery stores?

That late night dash could cost you dear as we discovered last night.

A standard bunch of bananas, strawberries (despite being on special offer of two for one) tuna and sweetcorn sandwiches and chelsea buns were more than they are on Tesco Price Checker. A Crunchie bar that is normally 41p cost 46p.

The only products that were the same were Hovis and their Turkey Slices.

I realise that these are convenience stores but should the consumer have to pay for this convenience when the larger stores can more or less subsidise the costs of these smaller stores?

Yes, they are slightly dearer. Have you complained to Tesco or written to watchdog?

i wonder if suppliers get paid more, if their stuff is in the larger stores..? somehow i think not.

many offers that my friend sees at a large store close to his home are never in my local express..

    I agree.
I was also disappointed to find out that these "express" stores don't stock clothes, televisions or patio furniture.
I won't be going back thats for sure, I'd rather have water on my cereal than make a late night dash to one of these rip off merchants.

I second these views, it is a disgrace that Tesco are allowed to get away with this type of, to my mind, criminal behaviour. To register my disgust I am going to go to my local Express store later on and put a brick through the window.

Your assumption about my petrol costs is wrong. I have a larger Tesco, a Waitrose, Asda and M&S very close to me. None of them are open on a Sunday evening.[/quote]

i dont think 'large' stores are allowed to open after 4 or 5pm, on Sundays- presumably to give smaller traders a chance..

It does say on the adverts in minuscule writing that offers exclude Tesco Express stores and that their prices will vary.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Prices vary from store to store in some cases. Certainly prices are often different regionally and the items they stock are different too . For instance I have noticed some things are not available in stores in the north of England but are in the south - I guess because of demand for these items.

Petrol prices are vastly different too, yet its all petrol - even in two say BP garages a mile apart the price can be 2 or 3p a litre different. Also if you only use main roads/motorways petrol costs more.

Its just the way things are!
