crown usually have a guarantee of ten years.

If they didn't compensate you at the time I can't see that they would do so now. And while you could of course try suing the previous dentist, there are rarely any guarantees of how long things will last, nor any proof that it wasn't something you did which caused the crown to fail - nail-biting, injury, biting on something that shouldn't have been in a bowl of cereal again. How are you going to 'prove' it was defective workmanship on their part?

If M&S did give you any compensation at the time, they're very unlikely to give you more now: it's usually 'in full and final settlement'.

normally you should put the problem you have, the claim amount and ongoing treatment if needed...something i did not know at the time!!!

and how it had caused you problems that i have had you may not be saying the same thing. my teeth are perfect otherwise as i really look after them!!

Quite honestly I cannot see how you could claim. As we get older our teeth become weaker and the more they are filled the weaker they become. Natural process I'm afraid.

I had a broken tooth from eating weight watchers gums but it was my choice to eat it.

Sorry but I don't agree with all the claiming that goes on these days.

    Just my personal opinion

i also think hearing someone here say to me i had the choice of what to eat. i think is silly. i bought cereals for breakfast. if this had been my daughter she might have choked!!!so i will keep writing to them.
By the way i do not have any intentions of suing previous dentist. i only explained what someone else said about it. it is not their fault so if anyone has misunderstood what i was trying to say i apologise if not clear. i just think that marks and spencer still have a responsibility - either for the inconvenience for the next few years or they pay up a lump sum to cover it for the rest of my time now.

If M&S paid something towards that original crown, then I would guess that at the end of the letter that came with the cheque there would be words to the effect that by accepting that money, you were agreeing to it being a full and final settlement of your claim.

EDIT - Just read Sue's response - and she said exactly the same thing! I should read other posts more carefully!!!

I think you'll be exceptionally lucky to get anywhere with this. Personally, I wouldn't waste the stamps.

Crowns last about 10 yrs on average - they don't have a 10yr guarentee. Usually a dentist would replace a crown if it failed within a year - sometimes a bit longer, but everybody is different, and chew and eat different things with different bit forces. It's very hard to say how long a particular crown will last an individual person
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
