Explain no claims discount

I'm thinking of giving up driving for a while to save money and travel by bicycle and public transport instead.

I might go back to driving in the future but I'm quite confused by the no claims discount rules. If I have a break of one year from driving am I allowed to enter previous driving years as a no claims discount?

I've asked this before and I was told that some insurers are OK with breaks, some aren't. How do I know for sure if I'm allowed? I can't seem to find a definite guide or anything about it in terms and conditions.

I am not sure you will find a definate guide as it really comes down to the discretion of the insurer as to whether they will accept it.

2 years used to be a general guide, before you start running into problems. Beyond that, you would need to enquire in advance of taking out cover to see if they will take an old NCD proof.
