Virgin Credit Card Promotion

hi i am new to this sight so be patient with me
i recently transferred from lloyds credit card to virgin and have discoverd that if you are a day late with your payment they scrap your 15months interest free promotion you pay the standard £12 late payment fee and you have to pay interest on what you owe. i did contact them and they said they would half the late payment and interest and i had to set up a direct debit.

my payment is made on the 6th of the month to reach them by my due date of the 11th but this particularl payment they changed the due date to the 9th which i did not notice until my new statement which reads once again my due date is 11th.
are virgin trying to rob me because i am a new customer or are they right to change my due dates when they want to.

also i make the same payment amount everymonth but my minimum payments are always different sometimes its high and then its really lowthen high again i have not spent on this card and i dont intend to .
can anyone help and tell me if virgin are leagally in the right.
i am waiting for them to send me the terms and condions so that i can read though it.

Not the case with Virgin. When on the 0% promotion the minimum payment is fixed at somwhere between £5 and £25.

With regard to the changing in payment due date, have a look at a calendar and compare what day of the week the due dates AND billing dates are - you may find that the bill is issued on, say, the 4th Tuesday of the month and the due date is, say, the 2nd Tuesday of the following month. Therefore, although the date would change every time, the pattern of your bills should always be the same, and you would still have the same amount of time between receiving the bill and having to pay. This is definitely the case with one of my cards.

If you want your due date to be on a specific date, say 5th of each month, just ring them and ask them to do this. Most card companies will.

Safest way to pay, as anyone will tell you on this site is by direct debit. Then it's the bank's responsibility to take the money on time and you should never incur late payment charges.
  • To add to seasidepom's comments: if you set up a DD you'll never be late with your payments, but don't discount the fact that you can also make additional payments online through www.virginmoney.com. Virgin's minimum payments are £25 per month, so unless you really want to be carrying a large debt for the rest of your life, I'd reccommend making additional payments online. Or, alternatively, ring Virgin and ask to set your DD to a fixed amount of say, £100 a month. That way you'll clear your debts faster.

It only takes 2 working days for online payments to clear, compared to 4 working days if you pay at a bank, or 5 if you send a cheque.
