I forgot to add ,with regards to the funeral ,you can ask for a delay in payment .
You could also apply to the DSS for funding .You may have to pay it back but initially it will help you out .
I got help but had to pay it back once the funds started coming in .

Thanks all.
I've spent a couple of hours this morning down at the Family Records centre tracing a marriage certificate. I was never quite sure when my parents were married - let's just say there was a bit of a "family secret" there as it was about 30 years after I expected! Anyway, both that one and the birth certificate are on order for delivery next week.
Another account has settled today which means I can pay the funeral expenses as well so thngs are looking up now.

Having a chuckle over the 'confusion' ( ) over your parents marriage date ... when I was doing some tracing back for geneology ... I found out all sorts of cheeky secrets which by today's standards are absolutely nothing shocking .. but by the standards of the era could have had them locked away for life if they hadn't told a porkie or two
