Easiest card to get from this shortlist

Hello,

I have 5K on a Lloyds TSB card that is nearing it's end of interest free period. I am thinking of moving the debt to one of the below cards with a view to paying it off with overpayments. Apart from the Lloyds card I only have an MBNA with zero balance.

These are the cards I am considering...

Egg - 0% for however long
Capital One - 0% for 14 months
Virgin - 0% for however long

Which is these is the easiest to get and does anyone have any info on the criteria - i.e minimul wage, credit status etc.

Thanks in advance.

Capital One list their criteria on their website. You'll need an "excellent", as defined by them, credit rating for the 15/16 month cards.

    Egg can be picky.

Virgin (MBNA) are known to give good limits.

I don't think any of the above give minimum salary requirements on their websites.

Put yourself in the best possible position by assessing/lowering your existing available credit on cards before applying.

Thanks for that. If I already have the MBNA card will I still be able to get a virgin card. I have a good credit history - excellent with MBNA.

Any credit limit and, more crucially, existing debt you have on MBNA will be taken into account when you apply for the Virgin card.

Depending on the figures, you may be better going elsewhere.

Credit limit on the MBNA is 8K and I only want to transfer 5K this time. They will know I am a good payer so would they be the best chance I have?

Having checked MoneySupermarket I have decided to try for a Barclaycard instead. Anything I should know about before I apply?

Check out the "Best Balance Transfers" thread on the sticky at the top of the page.

You will find Barclaycard feature quite prominently and usually not for the right reasons.

I agree. Definitely wouldn't go there.

Have you considered Halifax? 15 months 0% on BTs is currently available to new customers. There's a 3% handling charge ;)

I personally got my best credit limit with Barclaycard... but be aware you can only BT the first £5k of it at 0%... which will suit you!
    Best Regards,

I'm a longstanding Barclaycard customer, but I wouldn't recommend Barclaycard 0% BT cards at the mo, not to somebody with just two credit cards.

Among the more serious criticisms posted on the best balance transfer sticky:

    rate-for-risk policy
    high rate of rejection
    low credit limits
BTs restricted to £5000 or 90% of credit limit, whichever is least
    poor telephone back-up

It's not as though there's a shortage of BT cards to choose from.

As a follow up - I have applied for the Capital One card today. I consider my CR rating to be good enough from their criteria and if I don't get the headline rate card I am not fussed about getting one with a higher rate - I am only interested in the 12 months interest free period. I didn't get accepted straight away (does that mean anything?) If I do not get it all is not lost because I still have a dormant MBNA account with a limit of 8K and they have offered a LOB transfer at 6.9%
