Does the following site have a virus?

Hi there,

Ulster television website is the local itv website for N Ireland. Over the past few days when I open the main page of the site which is www.u.tv I get a warning from avg 8 that it has a trojan horse and a virus called exploit.

Surely a main site like the local version of itv couldn't contain a virus? I only get the warnings about virus detected when I click on this site and it gives me the option to move to virus vault etc which I do, only for the warnings to come up again when I return to the same page.

Whats your take on all of this ..I have emailed the tech site of the site as well as the editor.

regards

:)

    use firefox with Noscript addon

Seems the advertising server in Germany that they use might be passing on some duff adverts - the noscript addon shows links to:
    suppadw.com
    rid34.com
    qq117cc.cn << the most suspect

Sometimes even fairly reputable sites unwittingly peddle spyware because of their third party advertising services. It's worth letting them know since it may be in breach of their agreement with the advert provider, and they may wish to drop them in order to prevent harm to their customers.

I get the same warning and I'm using Eset Smart Security so it looks like it's a genuine trojan/exploit rather than a false positive. Very naughty of them.

Firefox 3 has this site reported as an "Attack" site, and blocks access by default. Google also picks it as suspect. Stay away at all costs.
    Super geek.

Didn't block me, but I am on a Mac so it may not be able to affect me

McAfee site advisor says there's a download on u.tv that will change your system settings.

Apparently it adds a UTV program to add/remove programs, changes your default search engine, your homepage to u.tv, and adds a link to the site to your desktop. I think the download is for people who have subscribed to u.tv broadband.

Could this be what AVG is picking up?

Avast also detects a virus and a trojan when clicking on the link if this helps anyone.

might be an idea to remove/obfuscate the link, before someone without a decent av scanner clicks on it.

But of a problem there, as they advertise it during pretty much every ad break on TV in Northern Ireland!

I didn't have a problem and i'm using Zone Alarm Internet Security which uses the Kaspersky anti-virus engine.

That's because they now appear to have taken off the offending advertiser. My AV can't detect it either now.
