Travelling From Wolverhampton to Manchester

Hello there, myself and OH are going to Manchester on 27/08 and coming back the day after. Does anyone have any tips on cheap travel (trains, buses etc.)?
The cheapest I can come up with is National Express which is £33 return.
Any ideas much appreciated, I've tried megabus but the times of travel are rubbish.

Have you tried split ticketing on the trains ?
Say...go to Stoke, then to Manchester etc?
Good thread on this forum about it.0 -
That £33 is total for the two of you, not each. BTW. Not really all that expensive.
However you can do it for £20 total if you pick departures with fun fares.
There ought to be cheap train fares - they should have been released (they start at £5.50 single), but there's no sign of them. I very much doubt if they have all sold already, so engineering work is probably the culprit - part of the line is closed all that week with buses running in place of trains. They MAY get released later when the engineering work is confirmed and the train diversions finalised.0 -

Thanks for the reply, yeah a friend had mentioned the £5.50 train fares and I was surprised that they all seemed to be gone.0
