ebay questions...help

can someone answer these questions as all these new ebay rules has left me confused;

-can i put down cash on collection as an option to buyers ?

- i have seen sellers have paypal as an option to buyers because it is a MUST but on their auction they say, "no paypal for this auction". is this allowed ?

- can i offer buyers a discount if they use a payment method other than paypal. so can i give discounts if they use bank transfer ??

-if i dont want to offer paypal can i just put a incorrect paypal email address when i start the auction, so when the buyer tries paying via paypal it wont go through. then i can ask for another payment method ? :)

    - You can put cash on collection as an option to buyers.

    - No you're not technically allowed to do this (even though people do) if ebay catch you doing this they'll most likely remove your listing.

    - Not 100% sure on this but I'd probably say no, again I can't see ebay liking this and you run the risk of the listing being removed.

    - Do not do this as it's unfair to the buyer if you say you accept Paypal then you must accept Paypal. It'll also cause you more hassle in the long run if the buyer reports you to ebay.

    Hope this helps :)

    Yes
    I don't think so
Yes, although if someone reports you ebay will shoot first and ask questions later
Yes, but if someone reports you you'll be on the naughty step. By this I mean 'yes you can do it' but 'no you shouldn't'

  • thanks guys. I really do not want to accept paypal and prefer buyers to use other methods. Which is why i am willing to offer a small discount. lets just hope the sad snitches dont come across my auctions.

ebay has just gone completely downhill and i wouldnt be using it if it wasnt for the fact i am in need of a bit of cash!

You can put down cash on collection but you can't insist on it, so someone can still pay by paypal and collect the item. A pink on ebay has even said that ebay may no longer be the venue for items that require collection.

Don't play around pretending to take paypal and not accepting it, you'll get caught pretty quickly and just end up with problems. If you want to use ebay then accept paypal as required, if not there are other sites out there that allow you to list with cheques or whatever only. It isn't only sad snitches that will report you, it is everyone..sellers who resent you trying to break the rules and buyers who think you are scamming by trying to get round taking paypal.

If you put an incorrect paypal email address then I think the money just sits in limbo; you don't have it, but the buyer doesn't have it either. Not really a way to make buyers happy!

If you advertise paypal as an accepted payment option - you have to accept payment by paypal if that is the way the buyer wished to pay.

You can try what you like to get round it but if you do not accept payment by paypal, expect the buyer to complain to ebay.

If you don't wish to offer paypal as an accepted payment option - you can't use ebay! (except for the odd ebay categories that don't require paypal as a mandatory payment option)

Cash on collection (or cash in person) is an acceptable alternative payment option, but this must be in addition to paypal option.
