I wondered if you kind people could point me in the right direction. Suddenly for no reason I can think of my Microsoft office 2003 has stopped working. When I click on any (excel, publisher, word) it loads and then a box appears with the message Not installed for current user!

I have tried to repair the application in add and remove area but when I've clicked install and repair a box appears
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource which is unavailable"

Then another message
"Enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package PRO11.MSI

I have no idea what to do!
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

    Try reinstalling from disc.

    I haven't a disc!
I've got a disc for Microsoft office 97 which was on my computer til a couple of years ago but need my computer went kaput and I took it in to a shop (now closed ) for repair.

I paid extra to make sure nothing was lost on the computer and when i got it back they had upgraded my office to 2003. They explained that this was due to me having publisher installed separately it was the only way they could save my files.

So it probably isn't a legal copy then?

www.openoffice.org may be an alternative for you then.

I wasn't told that and I paid extra for the installation do you think that is the case? TBH I don't care if its my 97 version or the 2003 as we use it for basic applications. Would it be best to uninstall it and reinstall my 97 and will it affect my saved files?

If you only want basic applications then use Open Office. It's compatible with MS file formats and is about the equivalent of Office 2003 or maybe a bit better. Not much point regressing all the way back to 97 when the free software is better. You can install it now without having to uninstall anything so you can at least give it a try first to see whether it will suit.

I don't think any shop is really going to tell you they're doing something illegal!?! If it's a genuine copy then you're the one who should be in possession of the license and disc.

I never gave it a second thought tbh, all the computers I've brought I've had everything installed before using but thinking about it you're right you are given all the discs, but i just file them without looking!

As they were on the high street I thought they would be above board but maybe thats the reason they have closed down!:rotfl:

I suppose next time its PC world..........

Or maybe Dell etc. PC World may do things legitimately but I think they're a bit rubbish in their advice and support to be honest. Ideally you should get a recommendation from someone you know for an independant store. The small independants tend to be either superb or rubbish and not much in between. But best option is probably buying online using advice from this board etc.
