Seagate Hard Drive (Copy DVD)

Hi guys,
I have purchased a Seagate 2.5 External Hard Drive for my wifes laptop. She is currently doing her Masters Degree and I thought it may help her put her DVDs, Powerpoint presentations etc onto it and move around as required.
My only problem is that I am not sure how to put her DVDs onto the Hard Drive:rolleyes:
Does she/I need to put some software onto the Hard Drive in oredr for it to take DVD format?

Any help greatly appreciated.

When you refer to "her DVDs", do you mean commercial DVDs - i.e. films? If so, they will be encrypted with CSS, so you would need something like this:

(or other similar products linked from that page) to defeat the encryption. It's probably fair to say that the owners of the material's copyright wouldn't be too happy if they knew you were doing that.

    Hi fwor,

Yes it is a DVD of waterbirth (she is a midwife, all very good stuff:eek: ), she has paid for the DVD and just wants it for convenience as she does a lot of work when she can.

I don't 'believe' that there are copyright issues as she is not making money from it.

Will try what you have suggetsed.

    Cheers

Technically, copyright law applies irrespective of motive - but practically I doubt there would be a problem.

If the content isn't encrypted then you should find that any of the current CD/DVD utilities such as Roxio or Nero will be able to copy it over, though IIRC you end up with a single file and lose the ability to index it by scene.

If its not copy protected you can just copy the Video-ts folder from the dvd to the Disk drive, you can then open the video file from inside that folder (video-ts.ifo)
