Cancelling Sky?

I called today for my Dad - I took out Sky on the full package years ago, and when I left home Dad carried it on (still in my name).
He only really watches the sports channels, I tried to get a better deal three months ago and got a special deal for £29.50, which has now expired. It is now back up to £34 a month.
I explained that my parents were in the 70's, and could not afford this, he said there were no special discounts on at the moment but could upgrade to Sky+ for free. Was on the phone for 30 mins and this was the best he would or could offer.
If it was me I would have taken the Sky+ deal, but my parents have not worked out how to put a dvd or video in to a player yet!
Hope this is of some help0 -
I cancelled Sky a few months back, got offered nothing at the time. About two months later got offered by letter free sky+ and half price installation. Wasn't interested in this as we already have a digital recorder. Not really bothered about signing up again as for the amount we watch I think its too expensive.
I did exactly the same thing at the beginning of the month - we only have the basic entertainment package for £21 but even that I think is expensive when the main channels we watch are the free ones!
They didn't really try to talk me into keeping it - I explained that reception due to trees obstructing the signal was a problem and we have a non-standard installation so it would be a waste of time sending out an engineer or even giving us new equipment which was offered. When I asked why my mother in law was on exactly the same package for £15 a month the only explanation was that it was probably as part of a new customer package.
What really made me cross was when the magazine came out telling us of yet another price increase. No explanation just that it was going up in increments in August and September! No thanks mate!!
As a query, when our service stops at the end of next month, we will still be able to get the free channels if we keep the box and the card connected up shouldn't we?If I have been of any assistance, or my information is useful, please press the "Thanks" button0 -
Yes, you've got no worries on that score!0

Hi guys,
I hope this is the right thread to post this question.
I am currently paying for the full package from Sky TV (plus multiroom). About 5 years ago, me and a friend were sharing house and we decided to get Sky... the Sky account was created on his name alghouth the payments came (and still come) via a Direct Debit from by bank account. Currently I no longer have use for the multiroom service and I called Sky to downgrade the package... to my surprise I was told that i cant change (downgrade or upgrade) the package 'cause the account is not on my name. The problem is that my friend moved out of the country and I dont know how to contact him, I explained the situation to the Sky representative I was talking to oh the phone (and to his supervisor) but the answer was the same: "I cant change the package. I need my friend to contact Sky personally in order to change the package".... any ideas on how to proceed??...0 -

I would call up and just pretend to be your friend, and cancel the whole thing. Then you can set it up a fresh in your own name. :dance:0 -
We phoned sky in the week to se if we could reduce the price on the sports package, perhaps an offer? But no, not offered anything so we cancelled. lose it in 30 days0

We have everything on Sky, Movies, Sports, Top package etc, our bills are normally about £80 a month with extra movies booked and god knows what my husband books :-) I phoned them to enquire about getting the packages reduced or cancelling, they said, no reductions in fact it is going up and if I wanted to leave I could !!, oh well, been with them for about 15 years and we cant get Virgin where we live so we have to keep it. (I know in pure money saving terms we dont 'have' to keep it, but having the sport etc on our TV and paying £80 a month is considerable cheaper than my OH going to the pub to watch a match everytime)0

write to them. State clearly that the account that is paying the bill is yours, NOT your friend's. Inform them of the change you wish to make, and tell them they have 30 days from that date to a) change the account name, and b) make the changes you require. After that point inform them that you will be stopping the direct debit. I suspect it will get passed up the chain and will then get sorted. Good luck! Thanks for the advice... I will just do that and hopefully it will work.0 -
We cancelled sky a few months back and to be honest it wasn't a struggle. A 1000 channels of utter drivel and costing us a fortune. We'd never go back to it, a complete waste of money. Anyway, back on topic. Cancel and then wait a few months if you can't live without it as this is when the best 'deals' flutter through the letter box.0
