Cancelling Sky?

Options
Morning to everyone. I am in a sunday money saving mode and i am trying to trim some bills!! I have started by shaving £5.50 a month off my Setanta package and now i am going to try SKY. I am currently on the Sky Sports package which is £38 a month soon to be £40. I was going to call Sky and threaten to cancel to see if they could come up with any offers. However before i call them i need to know if i have to give a 30 day notice period i dont want to really lose Sky just trying to get a better deal. At least if i dont get a better deal i could still fall back and ring another time to cancel my cancellation. Please help me.

This is exactly what I have been trying to find out this morning... Looks like I'm not the only one with the same idea. I actually live in the city, so I just popped out to see if I could find any of their salemen in the Shopping Centre, to try and haggle a deal there... Looks like they either don't work on Sundays, or they were off skiiving!!!

Sean75 if you do ring up today, would you post your experience.... my OH would kill me if I actually did cancel Sky!!!
  • I'm doing the same today! Done Setanta, where else can I save?

Don't know the answer to your question but surely if you don't want to loose sky you just have to be prepared to look a prat and if they call your bluff at the very last minute say , ok ok I've changed my mind I don't want to cancel after all!

Make sure you've read the insiders note which gives some tips.

Good luck wl try the same when I have 5 mins, let us know how you get on.
  • we have tried to get Sky Plus a few times by threatening to cancel and got nowhere, I dont actually mind paying something but it really hacks me off how new coustomers get it so cheap and we have to pay full whack even though we are currently paying Sky around £50 a month for broadband, sky tv and the phone
  • wheres their loyalty to their current longstanding customers?

    Hi ya
I have read on another post that you have to give Sky 30 days notice of cancellation.
On the other post they have also said what Sky has offered them to remain customers i.e reduction of bills, Sky + upgrade.

Am new to this otherwise i would have put a link up for you to have a look for yourselfs.

    Hope this helps.

I phoned to cancel a few weeks ago, said I didn't watch sports etc - I've got the top package at £45 with £5 broadband. I was offered a £15 discount for the next 3 months. Didn't have to overly haggle for this deal - I was actually hoping for free Sky+, but was still pleased as I have all my channels (that we do watch) but for £30pm, and I'll reassess at in September.

This was a few of weeks ago now, so not sure if it was some kind of retentions promotion that may have passed. There is a lot of good information on the Sky+ for existing customers threads. Good luck!

Your best bet is to actually cancel sky. If you can live without it for a couple of months, then you will get good offers to come back(free sky+ etc.).This is the best time to do it, no footie on , nice weather(maybe not) etc.

I cancelled Sky a few months back, got offered nothing at the time. About two months later got offered by letter free sky+ and half price installation. Wasn't interested in this as we already have a digital recorder. Not really bothered about signing up again as for the amount we watch I think its too expensive.

I signed up just a month ago and am on the 'free for 3 months with £50 M&S vouchers' deal. Got all the channels and am well pleased. However, I'd love to get Sky+. I have to decide in a few weeks if I want to continue (intend to downgrade to the basic package) and am wondering if I'll have any leverage at that point to negotiate a deal on Sky+. Any advice welcome.
