Adobe Acrobat & .pdf Problem

I've searched the forum for "adobe" and can't find the answer to my problem, so...
If I click on a .pdf link on a web page, I just get an "icon" appearing in a new window at the top left of my screen.
The only way I can get to view a .pdf document is to use the "save as" function and store it on my PC first.
I'm using Win98 (don't laugh!) and Adobe Acrobat 5 (I think?).
Is it just a setting I've got to change? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Many thanks.

Sounds like its corrupted somewhere, Try the latest version http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html.
Theres nothing wrong with win98, I prefer it to XP, much easier to work and solve problems with.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Later versions of Acrobat Reader aren't very compatible with Win98, so only go up one version at a time. If V6 turns out to be the best usable version have a look at http://sastools.com/b2/post/79394202 as V6 is a pig for loading plug-ins0
