There is an activity group called Spice UK (https://www.spiceuk.com) who have all sorts of different activities but be warned very little of what they do is cheap and you have to pay for everything:eek: Without being rude the people are a little odd too - it seems to be the place where lots of men have a penchant for wearing ladies clothes:eek:
How about taking her go-karting or quad biking?
Sounds odd but get her a travel adaptor if she likes travelling, as well as an eye mask to keep the light out.
Get her something silly like a bottle of bubbles - can be found in toy shops and pound shops.0 -
How about completely random small things, like a bag of her favourite sweets? First cd she bought? Favourite musician? Etc etcGreen and White Barmy Army!0

What about a lottery ticket for the draw closest to her birthday or a scratch card.
A cookbook to do with cooking with herbs. There are a couple on Play.com and also Amazon.co.uk. Just put cooking with herbs in the search.
A willow tree figurine. There is one called Birthday Girl and there are also some that have really nice names - Bright Star, With Love, Friendship.
A digital photo keyring - http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3594927/Sweex-1-5-Digital-Photo-Frame-Key-Ring/Product.html
A memory book with lots of photos in from over the years that you have been friends. Find out all your old ones and scan them so you can use them. Tesco do some really good photobooks - i bought one for my best friend and i'm really pleased with it. http://www.tescophoto.com/wpp/tesco/ap_book_easy.jsp
I could go on forever - it's my best friend's birthday in a couple of weeks and i've bought all these sorts of things for her.
Hope it helps. xxx0 -

my sons 30 in august, does anyone think this would work for a man?
Hi mo1, I did this for my boyfriend's 21st (21 things, obviously!). I think he thought I was a little crazy at the time, but it obviously worked because we are celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary this weekend!
LondonDiva, I think this sounds like a lovely idea. How about some nostalgic ideas which take you and your friend back in time...did you have favourite chocolate bars/crisps/snacks when you were at school which you could make up into a mini-hamper? Or how about a CD of music from the year you turned 16/18/had your first holiday without parents, etc, etc? A DVD of a favourite film you saw together?

P.S. I think Party Rings are the round biscuits covered in icing with the hole in the middle, made by Fox's. (Type "party rings" into any supermarket website and it should bring them up for you). They were very popular at birthday parties when I was younger. FYI, I bought a "sharing" tub of these in mini size in Waitrose a couple of months ago for about £2.25ish. I also notice that the packets are on BOGOF at Tesco at the moment... :rolleyes:0 -
thanks,what were the 21 things?0

Oh blimey, now you're testing me (it was 15 years ago...!).
Mostly, it was little things (we were students at the time, so money was not so plentiful!:o). Also, he had just spent a year living in the USA, so some of the things were food-y items which he had not been able to get out there and had missed. Apart from that, I think there was a CD, a paperback book, a magazine, a T-shirt, undies (cheeky ones, as I remember, but we hadn't seen each other in 10 months!!;)), aftershave - nothing very special...more your "stocking-filler" type of thing, plus a few jokey bits and pieces. The big one was a watch, which pretty much cleared me out funds-wise, so the others had to be cheaper!:p I wrapped each one individually, then put them all into a big box filled with shredded tissue and wrapped that so it was a bit like a bran tub/lucky dip, making sure that the watch was right at the bottom, so it was the last thing he opened...although at the time, I think he probably preferred the edibles that he had missed so much during his time away!
Does your son have any hobbies which you could expand on? Maybe post his interests and we can come up with some suggestions.

P.S. For anyone planning a re-run of the above situation, the US immigration authorities would prefer it if you waited until you arrived before wrapping your 21 gifts...:o Well, you live and learn!:rotfl:0 -

Hi Mo
If you are sending them to the US, wrapping might be something you want to consider. I took mine out to Florida, and the immigration peeps made me unwrap some of them at customs (about 6). I also had to write a list of what was in them all (which took some doing even then!). If you do wrap them, which I imagine you might want to do, I would suggest sending a list of what is wrapped up in a sealed envelope, so if immigration do stop your son on the way back in, he can give them the envelope (and hopefully not spoil his surprises!
). Something along the lines of:
"Dear Customs Officer (Sir/Madam)
As my son is turning 30 in x weeks time, I have sent back 30 presents with him from the UK (ready wrapped) for his birthday. In case you need to know what is inside them for security reasons, please find below a list of the contents of his wrapped presents:
1. X
2. X
3. X, etc, etc"
Of course, depending on the officer you get, it might not work and they may make him unwrap them all, but they may take pity on the situation and let him off...gotta be worth a try!!
