8k To invest... which account?

Hi guys.
V new to savings and stuff so need some hearty advice..
Iv managed to scrape together about 8 thousand pounds which has been sat in a cash card account doing nothing so thought it was time to invest it. i want to open up a savings account to put it in. I dont mind if its internet based. all i require is that i can access it when i need to so no fixed stuff where i cant touch it for a year.
any advice?
