we use the ferry every summer. to make it cheaper you do not have to take a cabin. you can get reclining seats. we dont sleep in them we sleep in the lounge nobody says anything to you..and you get a good sleep

how old are your kids and how do you manage to keep them in these seats?

  • It used to be in their brochure that you had to have a cabin if you were travelling with young children but maybe that's changed. But it is worth a cabin as it's 18 hours sailing and they are always late arriving next day

you dont need to keep them in there seats let them run about like everyone else does. they can also dance to the music and have a great time they will fall asleep eventually. all the kids love the boat its great

we did the centre parcs type holiday in holland this year....https://www.landalgreenparks.com
worked out at £700 for two weeks in july in a 3 bedroomed bungalow....but only if you book direct. hoseasons and a few others use the same parks at twice the price. Total price came in at around £1200 for 4 with flights and carhire.

have you tried Canvas holidays..scottish version of keycamp based in dunfermline?

Another option is the ferry from newcastle to just outside amsterdam...have done that one too..but appreciate that might be too far for you to travel to. Danish seaways who operate that route do packages which we found to be good value. https://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk

we stay beside the rosyth terminal but it worked out cheaper and easier for us to get easyjet flight to amsterdam from edinburgh and use a hire car. Holland is a lovely country and great for kids!
