Q magazines latest rip off

Hi, I don't really know what can be done, but I've just been ripped off in my local Tesco Express.
This months Q magazine, Volume 232 Nov issue, has a giveaway CD in honour of John Lennons would be 60th birthday, £3.80 for the priveledge, however there are two to collect to get two CD's, OK so I stump up and get both, only to discover that, only the mag covers are different, the contents are identical, so I thought someone had screwed up, but on taking them back to tesco's I find that all the mags are the same internally, the CD's also have different covers, but all the songs are the same except for one song on each.
Now I'm a big lad and I've been ripped off before, but what !!!!!!*$ me off is that they can get away with it, it might be something to do with the parent company being Emap, who are notorious for fleecing the companies that advertise with them, now they are targeting the people who buy their magazines.
I got a refund from Tesco, after they saw what was wrong, but they keptthe mags on the shelf, thereby supporting this rip off.
Well miffed in Bingley.

I hear you on that one.
I didn't get caught out by the different covers ( a cynical ploy that Q uses almost every month now ), but I was annoyed to see that It was nessesary to purchase 2 copies of the mag in order to have all the published recordings on the CDs because they put a different extra track on both discs.
I hope their readership suffers accordingly.
I'm not gonna buy Q anymore.0 -
Still on the Q front...my daughter asked me to get her the Q "special" Clash publication this morning, no free CDs or anything, only 146 pages. When I got to the checkout it was £5.99! I think that's extortionate.0

Hi kevbear,
Welcome to mse.
I hope that you don't mind, but I am going to move your thread to the vent board where you will hopefully get more replies.

i was wondering about this- i bought the one with merry christmas war is over on and then wondered if there was any point buying again with the other cd- i don't buy 'multiple cover only' anything- they will have to work a little harder for my £3.80 although q is a good mag.
the 3 issues and a cd for £9 offer was always goodthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then

My OH made a similar mistake with fhm..he just grabbed it whilst doing the shopping based on the covcer being different, he, as you would, assumed it was the newest issue...
then sainsburys refused to refund or exchange it in case he had read it...
booooo
i wonder how many extra copies they sell to people making the same mistake...Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
this is quite a common thing - Empire particularly ran four different covers on the same issue when Lord of the Rings (or one of the trilogy) was out.
The only ways I can think of avoiding it when it's something you read regularly (Q or whatever) is that there is normally a coming next month page which may mention a multiple cover.
Or subscribe so you don't get diddled.
It is a swizz though.
One of my relatives had been caught out with re-released album covers too.Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early

I would on principle refuse to buy a magazine that did this kind of thing, no matter how good they are. There are lots of magazines and websites for music lovers. Comics companies are notorious for doing this kind of thing, knowing that the die-hard fans will pay for anything just to keep their collections complete.Eh?? I give up!! Towel is getting thrown in here!

Noticed this last month with the Franz Ferdinand/Rolling Stones cover. I suscribe so haven't bought two copies yet. Got annoyed at the collect both caption at the bottom (do they think their readers are thick?). I have to say I was contemplating cancelling my subsription as The Word magazine is much better (like Q was 10 years ago) and this has helped me make the decision.0
