Update on Goldenjill's car search!
Options
Hi all
I'm not entirely sure how to amend a title of a previous post (I note some people manage to write 'update' in their title?)...
Anyway, after visiting 14 dealer yards in two weeks ! & checking out private cars we found smaller dealer which had quite a few cars in our price range.
We ended up purchasing a car today, a Hyundai Getz 5 door hatchback. I hadn't heard much about them, discussed it with partner, phoned my knowledgeable friend who did quite thorough searches on what car, autotrader etc.. etc... to check if price was right and of reviews.
Car is 3.5 years old, still has 1.5 years manufacturers warranty, only 17,000miles on the clock. Dealer was asking £3995, we haggled down to £3550 including 1 year's MOT & road tax (£120)...plus I asked for a tank of fuel (he gave me half) and new car mats - which he also gave me. The car is immaculate inside and test drive showed it was a nice zippy car - conscious it is only a 1.1 but wont' be doing a huge amount of motorway overtaking.
Just wanted to say thank you to all of you who guided me through. Especially the haggling part and websites to check first for reviews/pricing, I felt much more confident going in there and knew the right things to say.
I hope I have gotten a good deal, lots of you might say I could have gotten it much cheaper but we're pleased... maybe with a little bit more practice next time we go for a car I'll be super super confident!
Anyway, .... if you've helped me, thank you!

Just a thought on my note above, I take it the car yard are responsible for sending in the previous owner's registration forms and swapping over to my name ... or am I? The car will be ready Wed - after the service.
Also, forgot to mention... they will wash and hoover our car every Saturday free of charge for the life of the car!0
