Have just accidentally spilled a whole mug of coffee across my laptop
I take it that the laptop is now completely wrecked.
Is there any way of salvaging it?

turn if off, remove the battery
shake out as much of the fuild as you can and then leave it in a dry place for a few days
use a small screwdriver to remove all the covers on the back to improve the airflow
last laptop I saw with coffee in it fried the hard disk
should be covered on your contects insuranceEx forum ambassador

Will give it a go and see what happens and failing that it will be insurance0 -
What was in the coffee? I.e. did you put milk and sugar in it?
No milk and sugar = could be lucky and simply drying out could work
Milk and sugar (especially sugar) = completely f up electrical contacts and likely to be an intensive cleaning/repairing job required."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

If it still fires up and otherwise appears OK, don't bin it. You can get replacement keyboards off Ebay and they're not too hard to fit. A computer shop that does repairs should be able to change a keyboard for no more than an hours labour. Alternatively, get a USB mouse and keyboard and use it as a desktop.0

Happy to report that the computer is now functioning perfectly with no intervention from Dell!
