Downloaded and installed AVG 8 today and it's currently scanning my PC. Just noticed that it's highlighted a file called A0050670.exe in the system volume registry, claiming that it's a potentially harmful hacktool.
Can anyone shed any light and advise how to proceed once the scan finishes please as google is throwing up a blank on this and I've never come across it before.
Thanks :A

When the scan finishes it should give you the option to delete it.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0

But I'm not sure I trust this new AVG not to be deleting an important file “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Ah, I see
Can you give a quick rundown of all programs you have installed (ie the ones that come up in Add/Remove programs)? You are right that some programs do install bits that can look like viruses - copy protection software on certain games and CDs has been blamed for this in the past.

I'd be here all night listing them as there are 98 entries in add/remove programmes :rotfl:
Would it help if I gave the registry entry where the file is located?C:\System Volume Information\_restore{C5F4720D-C49C-4992-B306-4B61FC2D2738}\RP314\A0050670.exe

I was previously using AVG 7.5 but as of June 25th this was no longer going to be supported with updates etc. Having suffered several weeks of nag screens following the daily updates I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade, although I am aware that people have had problems with it since it's launch so rather hoping some of these might have been ironed out by now.
The file in question has been placed in the quarantine vault so will see if anything untoward happens to my PC without it“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
