Capital One Mastercard. Buying Euros !!!

Hi Guys n girls.
This is my first post so please be gentle :D

I recently used Martins currency forum to obtain the best quote I could when ordering Euros over the net. All went well until i received my CCard bill which capital one kindly put £12.03p on for a cash transfer. At first I thought it was a genuine error as I never use these cards at an ATM but I was told over the phone it was becuase I had purchased £400 worth of euros from a company over the net ???? so what, its all goods n services to me, why should Capital One charge me ??? Is there any suggestions on how i can claim this back off them (if Poss) Threatening to not use the card again fell on deaf ears (so far) and anyway a broad Geordie talking to a broad Indian was not the best way to communicate. Depressed :embarasse

It's clear in the T&Cs as far as I can remember. It's a bummer but you will probably just have to swallow this one!
    Bad luck!

Any kind of site that you purchase currency from counts as a cash withdrawal. This means a fee and interest accruing at a very high rate until the whole balance of the card is paid off.

I think Capital One like most other cards process transactions/payments in such a way as to pay off the cheaper elements first with cash advances last (more money for them!).

You have absolutely no chance of getting this back and if you are not in a position to repay the card balance in full then try for a new card to balance transfer to.

It was your fault that you did not read the terms and conditions applicable to your card.
  • Thanks Guys. It is what I suspected, and "JonesMUFCforever" you are right about paying the full balance off, which I have just done. Depressed Dave
