Rent only income still get TC?

If a person owns a couple of properties and has rental income from them as only income can he still get TC?

I have tried it on entitledto.com and it comes out alright.

The sinario I tried was a couple with 1 child with about a grand a month rent coming in as only income, but working 30hrs wk as landlord caretaker.

What I want to know is do you only put on TC form the profit not expenses?

Comments

  • Yes you would only need to declare the profit but they would need to register as self employed.

Does it really take 30+ hours p/w to look after a property or two though?
Maybe wiser to register as employed 16+ hours p/w. There would still be WTC as the applicant has a child.

There would need to be some record keeping as proof in case there is a compliance investigation at some point.

Thanks but 16hrs reduces the TC he would get.

What kind of records would be needed? Like a day diary?

it might reduce his tc - thats b/c hes not entitled to it! how many hours a week does he REALLY spend "caretaking" these houses?!

Whilst it would reduce the TC he gets, IT WOULD NOT BE MAKING A FRAUDULENT CLAIM.

He doesn't need to keep records - his accounts should be sufficient to prove what he was doing.

If his properties are anything like my Uncles, about 2 hours a week unless there's a fault needs fixing or a property needs preparing for rent.
  • The difference between the WTC payments for 16 and 30 hours is around £14 p/w maximum.

Would it be worth fraudulently trying to prove he is working 30 hours p/w when he isnt.

Yes I think your right about 16 hrs is more realistic I dont want to rock the boat.

My `friend` just wants to semi retire and live off the income from his 2 rents coming in.

What about if he starts a business and spends a lot on set up expenses?
Obviously need to keep good records.

I think you, sorry your friend is a very dodgy character. To come on here and ask about claiming money that 'you' aren't entitled to is disgusting!

Is it really possible in this brave new country we live in to own 2 properties (at least) and still ask for handouts from the taxpayers?
